Hogar de Cristo operates 4 therapeutic centers—located in the Metropolitan Region (2), the Maule Region (1), and the La Araucanía Region (1)—that serve 204 participants.

The care provided includes both outpatient and residential services.

These services are designed for adults with problematic alcohol or other drug use. They focus on harm reduction, rebuilding life plans, and strengthening relationships with family, community, and professionals. They provide rehabilitation treatment that combines individual and group psychotherapy with socio-educational activities.

We work in coordination with the public health network—specifically the National Service for the Prevention and Rehabilitation of Drug and Alcohol Use (SENDA)—but also offer independent programs for individuals who cannot access that network in a timely manner.

The approach is comprehensive: it is not just about stopping substance use but also about addressing the various forms of vulnerability that often affect individuals seeking help—such as poverty, violence, a lack of support networks, and mental health issues and social exclusion.

Collectively, Hogar de Cristo’s therapeutic centers aim to offer more than addiction treatment alone. Their goal is to provide comprehensive support, including mental health care, restoring family ties, social inclusion, and rebuilding life plans for individuals facing multiple forms of vulnerability.

The average age of the participants in these therapeutic centers and/or receiving these services is 29. Seventy percent are men and 30% are women; all are Chilean nationals.

Sixty-two percent (62%) live in extreme poverty, 22% live in non-extreme poverty, and 16% do not live in poverty.

The Quilicura Residential Therapeutic Center shown above in the video is one of the most innovative programs and serves only women.

It serves women with severe alcohol or other substance use issues.

Has a capacity for approximately 18 residents.
Operates with a gender-responsive, trauma-informed approach.

Provides a stigma-free space where women can rebuild their life plans.
