Drug and
Alcohol Abuse

In the year 2022, 493 users assisted in 10 programs.

According to SENDA-Chile, nearly 650,000 people between 12-24 present problematic alcohol/drug abuse in Chile. From the above figure, almost 132,000 are willing to receive treatment; however, the total offer for therapeutic programs (including State and civil society) is limited to 22,000 places annually. So, there is a massive gap of over 109,000 treatment plans unable to perform.

The catastrophic pandemic also impacted the way, access, and type of drug/alcohol consumption. It modified its health and work habits, exacerbating feelings of isolation, anxiety, and abandonment. As consumption varies according to exogen elements to people, like socioeconomic situation and networks, the pandemic became an extra factor that worsened the possibilities of controlling it.

Hogar de Cristo supports those more disadvantaged, facing poverty and social exclusion, and they present problematic alcohol/drug abuse. The foundation also carries out a fundamental advisory on prevention in companies and educational organizations.
