October 19, 2024, will mark the 80th Anniversary of Hogar de Cristo in Chile.
This significant milestone reminds us of a crucial event: Fr. Alberto Hurtado’s unexpected encounter with a sick, homeless person, which changed everything and laid out what would become the beginning of Hogar de Cristo.

Since then, the foundation has followed Fr. Hurtado’s mandate: “…as the needs and miseries of the poor show themselves, find ways to help them as you would with the Master….” The Hogar de Cristo is a beacon of hope for the most disadvantaged, impacting thousands of vulnerable lives yearly to build inclusion trajectories.

Its actions focus on providing both palliative and long-term solutions, investigating innovation, and collaborating with others to develop creative, evidence-based solutions.

In 2023, Hogar de Cristo impacted over 42,000 people in 255 programs throughout Chile.
