“I defend the rights of Older Adults facing hateful discrimination because of their age”. Dr. Miguel Kiwi.

Stereotyping people based on their Age. A lot to learn from cultures that celebrate aging, respect, and venerate their Elders, but also legislate to avoid ageism.

Doctor Miguel Kiwi, 83, is a distinguished, well-known Chilean academic, professor from U. de Chile, and physicist. A Mechanical Engineer with a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, and National Science Prize 2007, among other prizes. A family man, 54 years married, three children, low-key and jovial.

He made national news in Chile when his Bank did not approve an application to renew his credit card based on his age, he was 80 at the time. Now, 83, he is still a quantum physics professor at the University of Chile, and is in the news again, not because of his brilliant career and contributions, but because a Notarial Office demanded him “a full of power certificate” from a psychiatrist, before going ahead with some legal formalities.

Corollary:

If this story of discrimination is happening to well-known high-profile individuals. How many thousands of vulnerable and fragile people are silently suffering shameful discrimination but completely ignored without network, money, or even education to make a formal complaint?
