Drug and
Alcohol Abuse

According to SENDA-Chile, nearly 650,000 people between 12 and 24 present problematic alcohol/drug abuse in Chile. According to the above figure, almost 132,000 individuals are willing to receive treatment; however, the total number of available places for therapeutic programs (including Those Offered by the State and civil society) is limited to 22,000 annually. So, a massive gap of over 109,000 treatment plans cannot be performed.

As consumption varies according to exogenous elements, such as socioeconomic situation and networks, the COVID-19 pandemic became an additional factor that worsened the possibilities of controlling it.

Hogar de Cristo supports those who are more disadvantaged, facing poverty and social exclusion, and who present problematic alcohol/drug abuse. The foundation also provides fundamental advice on prevention for companies and educational organizations.
