Virtual Gastronomy workshops,
Súmate from Hogar de Cristo is a foundation with over 25 years of know-how in education, focused on vulnerable children & youth that has been excluded from the education system in Chile. 

As part of the education program, Súmate offers students workshops providing skills in different areas to prepare them for the labor market and/or to start their own entrepreneurship. One of its workshops is Gastronomy.

Based on current sanitary restrictions, Súmate did organize a space of encounter through virtual gastronomy workshops, swapping their hands-on classes for distance learning, and giving youth a new meaning to their unexpected experience of virtual learning. The participants had to cook a typical family dish in their homes. Dishes that students could make with ingredients they had on hand, record themselves during the process to share with organizers, families, and peers in an online ceremony via live streaming.

The students had the opportunity to learn from professional Chefs and listen to inspiring testimonies of whom in their childhood lived the experience of social exclusion and overcame adversities.
