SUMATE Foundation’s mission, Chile

One of the biggest challenges is retrieving and reshaping negative experiences of education and exclusion to offer vulnerable youths new meaning and opportunities to transform their lives through suitable education programs. It bears in mind its reality—many include traumatic and prolonged stories of privations. This is precisely what SUMATE has been doing for over 30 years through reentry school programs, also exporting models and know-how to the public system nationwide.

“The Socio-Educational Program” is an example of a Non-formal educational workspace that searches for and encourages youths from vulnerable neighborhoods to return to school and retrieve their education trajectories+specialized workshop training.

Annual SUMATE’s impact is reflected in 21 social programs serving over 3,100 vulnerable children/youth broken down into 617 Reentry school programs, 2,231 Socio-educational programs, and 273 through projects & consulting.
