Mental Disability Inclusion, Chile – It’s a pending debt.

Chile doesn’t yet have an effective national disability policy.

According to ENDIDE – Chile 2022, the National Disability and Dependency Survey, an estimated 2.7 million adults have these conditions, nearly 18% of the nationwide adult population. This survey reflects that older adults, women, and low-income households are more affected. Children and youths with the same conditions represent nearly 15%.
Chile spends 2.2% on mental health, while WHO recommends at least 5%. In addition, OECD countries spend 9% to 11%. So, Chile is far from adequately protecting this vulnerable segment’s rights.

In 2023, 1,735 users were welcomed in 42 Hogar de Cristo’s mental disability network programs.
