Being a woman and experiencing homelessness.

Solange’s testimony, Chile (watch the short video at the bottom)
A state of constant survival!

Homelessness is one of the most degrading forms of poverty and social exclusion. But being a WOMAN experiencing these conditions brings even more complex challenges and a daily struggle for safety, health, dignity, and hope. A state of constant survival!

Despite the above, many women like Solange demonstrate resilience by seeking assistance through our shelters, outreach programs, and service units such as Housing First, or by participating in shared-housing programs that change their lives.

The Ministry of Social Development and Family in Chile announced plans to conduct a new national census to update data on the homeless population. Its new surveys are revealing a worrying shift in the profile: an increasing number of women and young people are experiencing homelessness. Overall, 40,000+ people in Chile are experiencing homelessness today – nearly 18% are women.
