SUMATE Foundation has been transforming vulnerable lives through education for over 30 years.
Nearly 200,000 aged 12 to 21 are currently out of the system in Chile. Many want to consider enrolling, but lack the means. Let’s help them fill their backpacks and pursue their life projects.
 
The youths who decided to continue their studies in our schools just needed another opportunity—an environment and a school program that would welcome them with a tailor-made pedagogical offering to bring out the best in them.
 
The main goal of the SUMATE network at Hogar de Cristo in Chile is to overcome school exclusion by developing an innovative, high-quality, transferable, and scalable educational model. It includes creating vocational trades that build skills for success in the 21st century. In 2026, SUMATE began double shifts at the three re-entry schools, increasing its enrollment capacity by 60%.
 
SUMATE re-engages youth who have dropped out, often because of poverty, trauma, or being labeled as “problematic-rejected” by mainstream schools. Additionally, the Foundation aims to become a nationwide Demonstration School for the re-entry modality.
 
We prioritize strengthening schools and the local communities they serve, aiming to turn them into centers of shared responsibility and collaboration. The Foundation is implementing coordinated experiences between Padre Alberto Hurtado School and the city of Renca through the “Crecer en Renca” program and other collaborative initiatives being evaluated.
