Pure love & commitment! (PADAM, Pichilemu, Chile)

PADAM from Hogar de Cristo is an In-home care program in Chile that provides vulnerable older adults with food, regular visits, conversation, emotional support, help with personal care, diapers, and company. The users have mild to severe levels of dependency based on whether they count on family support or networks. Great work from the carers!

“..Working with older adults, it’s a permanent challenge. Before intervening, you must learn about the lacks and joys and connect with their stories. Initially, they may be reluctant to ask for or accept help until they feel comfortable. Then, they seek your support; you become like their family..” María José Guevara, head of PADAM Pichilemu, and Jessica Diaz, caregiver, Chile.

The permanent goal of the program is to provide the best quality of life. It preserves personal independence and dignified end-of-life care for each older adult, building an environment of support so they can trust and be allowed to help in the caregiving role.

Over 2,600 vulnerable older adults use PADAM programs from Hogar de Cristo. There are more than 470,000 people over 80 in Chile, so there is a long way to go.
Donate to saving-life causes.
