Aging Chile,

Facts!

By 2050 the ratio of Chilean ages 60 and older will be 1 in 3, and the number of adults ages 80 and older, who most often need help with primary personal care, will over triple between 2022 and 2050, jumping from 590,000 to almost 2,000,000 (source INE-Chile).

Population aging is a global phenomenon, and according to WHO, by 2050, 80% of older people will live in low- and middle-income countries.

Chile faces a major challenge to ensure that its health and social systems will be ready to make the most of this demographic shift. It’s a strong warning to take action to ensure economic and social sustainability, but also a call to emphasize and promote public policies and planning with a priority to protect older people’s rights and dignity, especially those more disadvantaged.

Over 3,200 vulnerable older adults in 53 programs are assisted in Hogar de Cristo throughout Chile with interventions of mixed & flexible short-term residential programs and In-home care ones.
