Hogar de Cristo 2023 – CHILE

Building Trajectories of Inclusion from Arica to Punta Arenas

It is redefining its social strategy – A new Hogar de Cristo for a new Chile!

“Attack, not so much the effects but rather the causes of poverty and exclusion.” Fr Alberto Hurtado SJ, founder of Hogar de Cristo, Oct 19, 1944.

Empowerment & Inclusion are core aspects of this new strategy. Both involve putting the person at the center with all its singularities.

The new strategy doesn’t believe in providing palliative poverty solutions to relieve immediate adversities but in seeking innovation and joining efforts with others to get creative solutions based on the evidence.

It is to transform structures that perpetuate fragility that limits people’s freedom.

“Since the social outbreak, the participation of the people has gained a fundamental value in public life. It sets us on an inalienable course to favor the participation of the people living in poverty. “In Hogar de Cristo, we believe there is no real inclusion without participation which exercises incidence.” Juan Cristobal Romero, Executive Director – Hogar de Cristo – Chile.
